Guitarist Guthrie Trapp joins me on the show this week. Guthrie is one of the cream of the crop of guitar pickers in Nashville these days. He can be seen with his own groups all over town, or frequently collaborating with soul/blues singer John Oates, or dobro great Jerry Douglas. While rising to the top of the pack over the past couple of decades, Guthrie has chosen to follow his heart and ears to explore original music, and being incredibly selective about he situations he gets into, avoiding the trappings of becoming a pop-country session player. He has put out some remarkable solo albums, as well as a deep well of instructional courses and in-person lessons that have allowed him the artistic freedom he desires, and deserves! I caught up with Guthrie over the phone during the lockdown to talk through all of this stuff, and more.
